Describe the three situational characteristics in Fiedler's leadership theory that allow a leader to determine the favorableness or unfavorableness of a leadership situation.

What will be an ideal response?

Fiedler postulated that leader-member relations, task structure, and the leader's position power all contribute to determining the favorableness or unfavorableness of a situation for leading. Leader-member relations is the extent to which followers like, trust, and are loyal to their leader. Task structure is the extent to which the work to be performed is clear-cut so that a leader's subordinates know what needs to be accomplished and how to go about doing it. Position power is the amount of legitimate, reward, and coercive power a leader has by virtue of his or her position in an organization.
