Discuss how the Internet and other technologies are contributed to police training

What will be an ideal response?

Technologies for police training now allow for distance learning, interactive computer disks, satellite television, and even correspondence courses. Online training can be self-paced, around-the-clock, and interactive and can contain one-on-one coaching and mentoring. Distance learning does not require people to be physically present with the instructor. People may use written materials such as books and workbooks; videos, audiotapes, and CD-ROMs; or courses on the Internet to learn. Grading of papers and tests can be done by mail, fax, e-mail, the Internet, or videoconferencing over broadband network connections. E-learning has many advantages: a wide variety of course offerings at significant cost savings, the ability to train greater numbers of officers, and the flexibility to allow students to learn at their own pace and on their schedules without having to leave their homes. Determining what training offerings best suit their needs as well as which training modalities will best serve their officers is important. Another ongoing concern is with the quality of the training; courses should be attached to an accredited college or university or similar body.
