How can you see criminological theory behind the ways that law enforcement agencies operate in your community? Where is there evidence of particular tasks/ programs being associated with presumed reasons for crime?

Possible answer: If you look in the newspaper, there are many new approaches being taken to reduce crime problems. The newest in my community is adopting a violence reduction strategy that has been proven to work in New York, Cincinnati, and other major cities. This program tries to reduce violence by approaching older "gang" members to spread the word that law enforcement is going to target their groups unless they work with police and call a ceasefire of sorts. It also approaches the violence problem from a public health perspective, urging the local health system to intervene in ways that law enforcement cannot. This approach has tones of social disorganization, routine activity, conflict, and control theories.
