Explain what an anatomical gift is and how these gifts can be made.

What will be an ideal response?

Anatomical gifts are the donation of all or part of the human body upon death. Organs are used for research or transplantation. Donors must be at least 18 years old to voluntarily donate his or her organs. Anatomical gifts can be put in a clause in a will, however, often wills are read many days after the death of an individual, and organ donation is usually required almost immediately upon death. A signed and witnessed donor card, for which the donor carries with them at all times, is another means of making an anatomical gift. HRSA allows for individuals to register for their state online, or to have your organ donations on your driver’s license. Family members may also make decisions regarding anatomical gifts, especially on the behalf of minors. Each state has its own probate statues regarding anatomical gifts.
