Provide and briefly describe at least six tips for the use of a digital camera.
What will be an ideal response?
File Type: If possible, set the camera to save files in its own raw file format. The Adobe Web site has a list of cameras supported by Photoshop.
Quality: Use high-capacity memory cards and higher megapixel counts to take more images at a much higher resolution. Use the highest-quality compression setting as well.
Storage: Copy images from the camera to a storage device before editing them in Photoshop. Adobe Bridge can read from most media cards, or you can use the software that comes with your camera.
Lighting and Speed: Experiment with the correlation between light and shutter speeds. Most of the newer digital cameras can take many pictures in a short amount of time, avoiding the shutter lag problem — the delay that occurs between pressing the shutter release button and the actual moment the picture is taken.
Balance: Changing your white balance setting from auto to cloudy when shooting outdoors creates a filtered, richer color, increasing the reds and yellows.
Filters: If possible, use a polarizing filter for landscapes and outdoor shooting. It reduces glare and unwanted reflections. Polarized shots have richer, more saturated colors, especially in the sky. You also can use sunglasses in front of the lens to reduce glare. When shooting through glass, use an infinity focus setting.
Flash: When shooting pictures of people or detailed subjects, use the flash — even outdoors. If available, use the camera’s fill flash or flash on mode. That way, the camera exposes the background first and then adds just enough light to illuminate your subject. Keep in mind that most flash mechanisms only have a range of approximately 10 feet.
Settings: When possible, use a plain background
, look at your subject in a straight, level manner, and move in as close as possible. Consider the rule of thirds when taking photographs. For busy backgrounds, if your camera has a focus lock feature, center the subject and push the shutter button halfway down to focus on the subject. Then move the camera horizontally or vertically away from the center before pressing the shutter button all the way down
Motion: For moving objects use a fast shutter speed.
