Thanks to the third-base wobble, many of the tRNAs can recognize codons using the first two bases of the codon. In addition, many nuclear genes can be imported into mitochondria and the exchange of genetic information between the nucleus and mitochondria is required for proper mitochondrial function. Therefore, some of the tRNAs are read using these nuclear-encoded tRNAs if the mitochondria do not transcribe those particular tRNAs.
