What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER:
Magazines first appear in the U.S. in 1741. Publishers of magazines prior to the American Revolution were limited by too few readers with time to read, high publishing costs, and expensive distribution channel. During the American Revolution, magazines became more political, and after the American Revolution, magazines took a while to succeed economically. Magazines were given a break in postal rates in the last decade of the 1700s and helped out by the passage of the Copyright Act of 1790. In the early 1800s, magazines were aimed at the educated and wealthy, and the small middle class of the times. In the early 1800s, magazines began to focus on American writers and covering weekly events, history, politics, and art. During the Civil War era, magazines began to have a greater impact on public life, by their coverage and illustrations dramatizing scenes of the Civil War.
