In some contexts, clients may need a more directive approach, may not be as effective in crisis situations, may not be as effective with those who just experienced a significant loss, not much known about when MI is most and least effective, more research with diverse clients is needed, ethical concerns when clinician and client goals are disparate or when clinicians have a vested interest in a client outcome.
