Describe Family Systems Theory (FST).
What will be an ideal response?
FST indicates that the system is a whole and that its objects, attributes, and environment can only be understood as a function of the whole system. Characters are the sum of the components that belong to the whole of its parts. FST focuses on how individuals relate to and influence one another within a system through a feedback loop. Behaviors, communication, interactions, and dynamics between family members influence family functioning. Identifying and changing family interactions that contribute to or sustain substance use disorders are key.
