How has electronic technology increased relational community?

What will be an ideal response?

Some would argue that community in the contemporary era is based on voluntary interaction (relational community), not on geography or territory (territorial community). Electronic communication now connects people over distant spaces, with a high degree of both immediacy and intimacy. The development of the World Wide Web in the early 1990s allowed rapid growth in the use of e-mail; beginning in the mid-1990s, hundreds of millions of people around the world began to use e-mail to communicate with other individuals and to develop e-mail discussion groups. The Parents of Suicide is one of many support communities that developed using e-mail. More recent innovations include blogs, microblogs like Twitter, wikis, podcasting, multimedia sharing sites, and social networking sites.
