Discuss the causes of deserts

What will be an ideal response?

Deserts are caused by (1) lower-latitude regions affected by zones of high air pressure and subsiding currents, where air is compressed and warm and not conducive to precipitation, and (2) middle-latitude regions sheltered deep in the interior of large continental landmasses or sheltered from precipitation by high mountain ranges.
