Some adolescents regularly face discrimination within society. For instance, members of ethnic or racial minority groups, gay and lesbian teens, and youngsters with disabilities are often the targets of prejudice and discrimination. What unique issues and challenges do these adolescents face as they strive to form an adult identity?

What will be an ideal response?

In addition to addressing the usual adolescent concerns (e.g., "Who is the real me?" "What do I want to do with my life?"), these adolescents must face the following challenges (the response should include at least two of these or justifiable alternatives):
· They are more likely to get negative feedback from adults and peers.
· Others' discriminatory behaviors may either overtly or subtly communicate that they are somehow "inferior."
· They may have to reconcile disparate views of what is considered "appropriate" or "normal" behavior.
· Some, especially those with disabilities, may have greater difficulty achieving the successes that age-mates regularly achieve.
· They may be part of what some people consider to be an "inferior" group.
