Discuss the relationship between medical advances and the prevalence of physical disabilities

What will be an ideal response?

Part of the increase in prevalence of physical disabilities may be due to improvements in the identification of and medical services to children with certain conditions. Ironically, medical advances have not only improved the chances of preventing or curing certain diseases and disorders; they have also assured the survival of more children with severe medical problems. Many children with severe and multiple disabilities and those with severe, chronic illnesses or injuries, who in the past would not have survived long, today can have a normal lifespan. So, improvements in medical care may not lower the number of individuals with disabilities unless there is also a lowering of risk factors in the environment
