What are the syllable structure and substitution processes? Describe and give an example of each
What will be an ideal response?
Syllable structure processes include final consonant deletion, reduplication, and consonant cluster simplification. In final consonant deletion, the child will delete the final consonant in a word. For example, 'cu' for 'cup.' In reduplication, the child will repeat part of the syllable to produce the word. For example, for 'water.' In consonant cluster simplification, the child will simplify the production of a complex string of consonants. For example, 'bed' for 'bread.' Substitution processes include stopping, fronting, and gliding of liquids. In stopping, the child produces a stop consonant for a fricative. For example, 'dis' for 'this.' In fronting, the child produces a front sound for a back sound. For example, 'otay' for 'okay.' In gliding, the child produces a glide for a liquid. For example, 'won' for 'run.'
