Again the same, but with clicks at the beginning and end of the few thousand samples and silence during them.

Or set the few thousand sample to a bunch of zeroes?
The sound sounds the same, but for those few thousand samples, there will be silence.

Note: For this question and many before, the answers assume you are working with a Mono .wav file. If one works with a Stereo .wav file, they’ll only affect one of its two sound channels, meaning that no matter what they do to the sound object they’ll still be able to hear the original sound channel in one ear.
