(2) Investment fraud generally refers to a wide range of deceptive practices that sell something, e.g., a company, product, or security that either does not exist or will not live up to the financial return being promised: market manipulation, ponzi scheme. (3) Mortgage fraud includes situations in which homebuyers and/or lenders falsify information to obtain a home loan: appraisal fraud, mortgage rescue/load modification scam, reverse mortgage scam, loan origination scam. (4) Mass-marketing fraud refers to fraud schemes that use the Internet to contact, solicit, and obtain money, funds, or other items of value from multiple victims in one or more jurisdictions: foreign lottery schemes, e-mail schemes.
