How is L determined if it is greater than 0.6 m?

What will be an ideal response?

L is the characteristic length used to determine a Grashof number and the fluid
flow. For horizontal surfaces L seems to take a value of 0.6 m or less. If L is
greater than this it is not used for horizontal free convection. On vertical
surfaces L is not limited at all and is typically the vertical height of free
convection.
