Debate why runaways should not be returned to their parents without investigating the cause for their departure
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Many youth run away every year; however, their reasons for departing their caretaker's home vary. Effort must go into investigating the cause of why they ran away rather than just reuniting them with their legal guardian. Youth frequently run away because of physical or sexual abuse that is not reported. That is why it is best practices to have juvenile runaways see a social worker or other counselor. Youth victimization has been highly correlated with children running away from home.
