When an apparent murder victim’s body is discovered, the first order of business is for authorities to identify the victim and determine the cause of death. This may be obvious or may require extensive forensic work, including toxicology work. In addition, the body must be examined for other useful evidence such as DNA or other evidence left behind by the murderer.
