What are the steps involved in using a self-etch primer?
What will be an ideal response?
To use a self-etch primer, follow these basic steps:
1. | Sand metal thoroughly. Remove all visible scale or rust. |
2. | Clean the surface with wax-and-grease remover and wipe dry. |
3. | Spray on a full wet coat of self-etch primer to any exposed bare metal. See Figure 25-10. |
4. | Apply an undercoat (primer or primer-surfacer) or sealer. If a self-etching primer-filler is used, this step might not be necessary. |
5. | Once the undercoat refinish system is dry and sanded, wipe with a tack cloth. The surface is ready for the colorcoat. |
