Specifically to witnesses, the defendant has several rights including: The right to confront and cross-examine any witness, the right to the compulsory attendance of the witness (e.g., in the courtroom or on closed-circuit television), the right to serve as a witness on his or her own behalf, the right to truthfulness from witnesses and protection from dishonesty in witness testimony (legal ramifications for witnesses engaging in perjury), the right to confront his or her accuser in court (however, limitations to the face-to-face expectation have been established, particularly regarding child witnesses in sex abuse cases).
