Discuss how New Kingdom funerary complexes differed from the Old Kingdom tomb complexes.

What will be an ideal response?

The ideal answer should include:
1. Old Kingdom necropolises, such as the Giza pyramids, included monumental pyramids that functioned as burial structures for deceased pharaohs and their ka, or life force.
2. They also included funerary temples that were connected to the pyramid by an enclosed corridor and in which the funeral ceremony for the pharaoh occurred and important rites that benefitted the pharaoh's ka were intended to be practiced in perpetuity.
3. Whereas Old Kingdom tomb complexes emphasized the monumental tombs, New Kingdom funerary complexes, such as the Funerary Temple of Hatshepsut, emphasized the temple.
4. Hatshepsut's temple was constructed on three levels connected by ramps and fronted by colonnades. The top colonnade led to a large hypostyle hall with multiple chapels, and a causeway lined with sphinxes connected the complex to a valley temple on the Nile.
