How could a person use hormones to experimentally manipulate the level of parental behavior a species demonstrated?

What will be an ideal response?

Maternal behavior can be affected by hormones but is not controlled by them. In some cases, simple exposure to offspring will promote maternal behavior after a period of time. Prolactin, progesterone, and estradiol are all important to inducing maternal behavior. It is best to administer these hormones in the same sequence and similar patterns to what happens naturally. In rats, oxytocin may also help facilitate a bond between mother and offspring.
