What are the differences between Ovonic and Ferroelectric memories?
What will be an ideal response?
Both these are relatively modern non?volatile storage mechanisms that can be used to store data. They both
use semiconductor technology in their fabrication and they both create devices that look like semiconductor
static RAMs. The difference is in the storage mechanism. Ovonic memory uses phase change technology. The
cell is a bead of glass that is melted and cooled. The rate of cooling determines the crystal structure and the
state of the device. Ferroelectric memory uses the position of an atom in a crystal lattice to store data. The
readout is destructive and data must be re?written after a read cycle.
