Why would we want to know the height of water in a river bed?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: So we can evaluate how much water is available to divert for irrigation or use in public water supplies. Also, hydrologists need to know if the river is rising to the point where it may flood over its banks in order to plan for such an event and to evacuate people, if necessary.
