Characteristics of a host that is easy to manipulate and work with are include the ability to efficiently take up DNA, to contain the necessary genes to encode for enzymes that facilitate replication of the vector, to grow in an inexpensive medium, nonpathogenic, rapid growth, and stability in culture situations.
