What is robbery, what are its elements and how is the crime of robbery graded in order to determine the severity of the punishment for this crime?

What will be an ideal response?

Robbery includes the following elements: the taking and carrying away of the property of another with the intent to permanently deprive the other of ownership; property must be taken from the person of the victim or in the victim's presence, and force or threat of immediate force must be used in the taking. These elements show a degree of danger to the victim that other theft crimes do not have, so robbery is universally punished more severely than other kinds of theft.  Robbery is graded on the amount of force used. Most serious is the use of deadly weapons (or what appear to be deadly weapons) or severe injury to a victim. Presence of accomplices, slight injury, or simply displaying a weapon might fall in the middle ground, whereas an unarmed attack or threat is considered least serious. The vulnerability of the victim may also be considered in the grading scheme, with robbery against the elderly or persons with disabilities punished more severely.
