How did the League of Nations, according to its Covenant, seek to resolve conflicts?
What will be an ideal response?
. The League of Nations set up a collective security arrangement to deal with conflicts. All members had a collective commitment to defeat aggression, and any conflict was considered to be a concern to all members (regardless of whether they were actually involved or affected). Conflicts could be resolved by peaceful arbitration, judicial settlement, or by the nine-member council. A Permanent Court of International Justice was set up to handle judicial settlements. If a conflict was to be resolved by the council, the council would either settle the dispute or issue a report with its recommendations; all members agreed that they would not go to war with any state that abided by the council’s recommendations. If any member went to war, they were considered to have committed an act of war against all members and were immediately subject to economic sanctions.
