What are boot camps and how does the procedures used in boot camps result in increased recidivism?

What will be an ideal response?

Boot camps are residential programs involving strict discipline and an intensive physical regime, as well as specialized education and training, and counseling and treatment for substance abuse and addiction. However, several characteristics of boot camps may be criminogenic instead of therapeutic. Boot camps tend to bond delinquent and criminal groups together, target non-crime-producing needs, mix low-, medium-, and high-risk offenders together, and model aggressive behavior. These factors may contribute to findings showing that participation in boot camps led to increased recidivism, when compared with participation in traditional probation.
