What is the relationship between deforestation, desertification, and groundwater? What is the human contribution?
What will be an ideal response?
humans cut down large numbers of trees, leading to deforestation. This leads to loss of topsoil, due to erosion. Also, humans cover large areas of land with buildings and roads, leading to further loss of topsoil. The topsoil loss leads to an increase in desert, or desertification. Desertification and the increased water needed for a growing population lead to the loss of groundwater.
