Distinguish among angular unconformity, disconformity, and nonconformity
What will be an ideal response?
An unconformity represents a long period during which deposition ceased, erosion removed prevoiusly formed rocks, and then deposition resumed. All breaks in the rock record are termed unconformities. A disconformity refers to a an unconformity that occurs within horizontal sedimentary rocks: A series of sedimentary layers are formed and then exposed and undergo erosion. The sedimentary layers are then submerged, and additional layers form on top of the previously eroded area. The gap between the older and newer sedimentary rock layers is termed a disconformity. A nonconformity occurs when younger sedimentary strata overlie older metamorphic or intrusive igneous rocks that are exposed via uplift, undergo erosion, and subside, and then sedimentary layers form onto of the eroded area.
