The term exceptional human experience was coined in 1990 by Rhea White to investigate what could be learned about all types of psychic, mystical, spiritual, death-related, peak, and other anomalous life experiences. White (1999) concluded that many types of exceptional experiences are very similar, even though there may be differences in how such events take place. The one characteristic that defined exceptional human experiences was its transformative influence on people’s lives. Many people have described near-death exceptional human experiences. Usually, they state that they saw a white light in the sky.
