Why does hyponatremia occur, and what are its consequences?
What will be an ideal response?
Overdrinking can be dangerous under certain conditions, resulting in hyponatremia, a condition in which extracellular sodium levels drop 10 percent or more below normal. Untreated hyponatremia results in nausea, vomiting, cramps, and disorientation. If the condition persists, seizures, coma (due to swelling of the brain), and death may follow.
