Is it feasible for Angelina to conceal from Philip who her clients are? Why or why not?
Social worker Angelina Pettit enjoyed practicing in a faith-based agency, where she found deep personal meaning in her work with clients. However, the work was complicated by the agencyís integral connections with her church. Her husband, Philip, a group leader in their church, invited Jacob and Raymond, two single men in his group and the church who were also Angelinaís clients, to their home for Christmas dinner. Angelina generally felt successful in managing her dual relationships, but it seemed this situation was hitting ìtoo close to home.î Their coming to dinner could challenge her sense of professionalism regarding dual relationships. But, she felt compelled to follow her faith and belief that individuals should not be alone during the Christmas season, and that celebrating community and being loved within the church family was important.
Under the circumstances, Angelina and Philip were enmeshed in multiple relationships. For example, Philip spent significant time with Angelinaís clients in the menís fellowship group at CUS. During this time, it was reasonable for those clients to discuss issues and joys about accomplishments or struggles while participating in IMH programs. Because Angelina was the only social worker at IMH, her clients may have shared with the group how their work with Angelina impacted their lives. And because Philip volunteered in the computer lab at IMH, he may have come into contact with his fellowship group participants there also. Their receiving services from IMH automatically identified them as Angelinaís clients. It would be feasible if Raymond and Angelina did not attend the same church where most of her clients attended, or if they did not live in the same neighborhood.
