Discuss the concept of community oriented policing and problem oriented policing

What will be an ideal response?

The successful implementation of neighborhood foot patrol led to the development of more strategies designed to enlist community support. These strategies have become identified as community oriented policing. One definition of community oriented policing suggests that it is a concept in which police officers and private citizens can work together in creating ways to solve contemporary community problems related to crime. There is not just one way of carrying out a community oriented policing program, but in reality there are several different ways. Yet, the essence is of community oriented policing is a realization that citizens and police must work together. Hence, citizen participation and cooperation are essential goals of a community oriented policing program. While community policing is a broad effort to develop new relationships within a community, problem oriented policing is a narrower effort to deal with a specific criminal problem. Problem oriented policing attempts to be successful by (1) assigning officers for longer periods of time to the concerns of the community, (2) developing the capacity to analyze problems, (3) learning where and when community involvement can reduce a problem, and (4) working together with those specific segments of a community that are in a position to reduce a problem. Like community oriented policing, problem oriented policing has different variant to it. However, both types of policing are being used in the United States.
