What will be an ideal response?

Agenda setting, framing, persuasion by professional communicators, and the reduction of politics to conflicts and superficial image and the primary means through which the media influences our thinking. Agenda setting involves defining for the public the relative importance of a given issue based upon the amount and prominence of the coverage it receives. Through framing the media chooses what to emphasizes in their coverage, which can have a direct impact on how the public perceives an issue, whether they see it as a problem, and who they believe to be responsible for solving it. Persuasion by professional communicators can impact our thinking because viewers who may not have the time, background, or inclination to research issues on their own, rely upon opinion leaders, whose objectivity is not guaranteed. Reduction of politics to sound and fury stems from journalists who don’t always have the ability or the time to do long-form reporting. Instead, living under the constant pressure of deadlines often leads to reporting that is shallow and meaningless and can ultimately cause many to view political coverage with a cynicism.
