Describe death notification. What do you think the repercussions of a poorly done notification could be for co-victims?

What will be an ideal response?

Examples should include that notification of family members of a death that resulted from violent crime is among the most challenging tasks for professionals whose responsibility it is to deliver the message. During notification and thereafter, the co-victim’s needs may include an opportunity for venting of emotion; calm, reassuring authority; restoration of control; and preparation for what the co-victim needs to do next. This is often the most traumatic event in the lives of those close to the victim. Survivors have had no time to prepare and need a sensitive, calm notifier.
