According to the text, there are four advantages to using computers for students with disabilities. What are the advantages? Describe two ways that you think problems or disadvantages might arise when students with disabilities are using computers (a

disadvantage could be a specific problem that might occur when use of computers is implemented).

What will be an ideal response?

The use of computers to help exceptional students learn has four major advantages. First, computers can help to individualize instruction in terms of method of delivery, type and frequency of reinforcement, rate of presentation, and level of instruction. Second, computers can give immediate feedback and emphasize the active role of the student in learning. Third, computers can hold the attention of children who are easily distracted. Fourth, computer instruction is motivating and patient.
Possible disadvantages might be: difficulty in finding the right program for an individual student's strengths and weaknesses; a student might prefer computer time to time developing social skills; some students may need accommodations because of difficulty using keyboards; some students may suffer adverse effects (e.g., absence seizures) from looking at computer screens.
