Explain how deep-ocean trenches are related to plate boundaries

Trenches are sites of plate convergence where slabs of oceanic lithosphere subduct and plunge back into the mantle. In addition to earthquakes being created as one plate "scrapes" beneath another, volcanic activity is also associated with these regions.
