How did the creation of new religious orders for men and women within Catholicism different in the sixteenth century compare to earlier church reforms?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. The reform orders during this time period were regulated by the Church in order to further their mission, rather than to protest conditions within the Church. The formation of the Jesuits, for example, came in response to questions about the church's purpose, and set about a goal of missionary work and education to reach more. None of the orders were formed specifically to combat Protestantism, but they did put a new emphasis on missionary work (particularly overseas) to try to gain converts to make up for the exodus of Protestants. Most missionaries began in Italy or Spain.
