The alarm stage occurs when you recognize the initial threat of stress. The point at which you realize how many finals you have and how much material you really need to review before the exams sets off the alarm stage. At that point, the body releases a surge of hormones as it prepares for fight or flight. But because the finals don't go away, you enter the resistance stage. In this stage, the body is using all of its resources to help you cope with the stress and keep you resistant to illness and disease. However, as the end of finals approaches, you likely enter the exhaustion stage. At this point, you fall into bed with a cold or headache.
