Large Mesozoic petroleum and natural gas accumulations are present in the Persian Gulf and
the Gulf Coast of North America. Some of these deposits in the Gulf Coast are associated
with salt domes. Mesozoic uranium deposits are present in the Colorado Plateau area of
western North America and are associated with plant remains in sandstones deposited in
ancient stream channels. Diamonds were emplaced in kimberlites in South Africa during the
Mesozoic. Gold and copper deposits are present in Mesozoic deposits in some parts of North
and South America.
