Describe the two-factor model of ADHD. Give examples of what this would look like in a first-grade child

What will be an ideal response?

• Core characteristics – compromised functioning in two areas (inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity); child could have deficits in one or both of these areas
• For a first-grade student, must take into consideration the tasks that are developmentally appropriate and expected. These could include academic tasks (starting to read, write, simple math, etc.), social tasks (learning to get along with others), learning to control emotions and behaviors (stopping behavior when not appropriate, calming down), controlling body (sitting in seat, standing in line, keeping hands to self), etc.
