What is object permanence, and how do we know when it develops?

What will be an ideal response?

This is the idea that objects continue to exist when they are out of sight. It is the ability to
represent objects mentally. An infant who has not acquired object permanence will not search for a toy that is moved behind a barrier; he/she acts as if it never existed. We know that the child has
acquired object permanence when he/she begins to search for the hidden toy.
