Telematics is the ability to connect the vehicle to the outside world. The vehicle telematics system can receive one-way transmissions from GPS satellites, XM Radio stations, HD Radio stations, and other sources. In addition, it can perform two-way communications to exchange data with cell phone networks by using the customer's smartphone. Systems that can be integrated into the operation of the telematics system include the navigational system, smartphones, music players, emergency services, satellite and HD radio, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The vehicle's telematics system acts as the central hub where all the services connect.
