If you are purifying a protein from an SEC column, what fractions do you want to collect?

What will be an ideal response?

It depends on whether or not your protein is large or small. Large proteins elute first
because they go around the beads whereas small proteins go within the beads. So, for large
proteins, you collect the first set of fractions. For smaller proteins, you collect the second set of
proteins.

In a mixed infection experiment, you study two plaque phenotypes of large (l+) versus small (l?) and bumpy (b+) versus smooth (b?). You mix small (l? b+) with smooth (l+ b?) and identify 50 small, smooth and 47 large, bumpy. How far apart are

the genes? A) 99 B) 1000 C) 490 D) 49 E) There is not enough information to calculate the distance.
