Determine why antihistamine medications can be effective treatments against the inflammatory response
What will be an ideal response?
Antihistamines block the effects of histamine and reduces inflammation and swelling of damaged tissues. Histamine, a type of inflammatory mediator that is a potent vasodilator, relaxes the smooth muscle in arterioles supplying damaged tissue. Histamine causes vessels to "open up" and blood to flow through them more freely. This results in increased blood flow to the damaged tissue, and the area becomes congested with blood.
