Name the three mechanisms that are thought to underlie the process of gender typing and give an example of each.

What will be an ideal response?

Reinforcement, imitation, and observational learning. Examples may vary. An example of reinforcement is complimenting a boy on his athletic skills, thereby reinforcing the gender stereotype that boys should be athletic. An example of imitation is a parent yelling at another driver while in the car and then the child who witnessed it then begins yelling at other drivers on the road. An example of observational learning is a parent smoking cigarettes around their child every day for 15 years. The child begins smoking cigarettes when he is 18 years old.
