Describe China's one-child policy and the implications of the policy

What will be an ideal response?

This policy was started in 1978 in order to curb overpopulation. Families were limited to only having one child. Parents were not allowed to have two children so most children today are growing up without siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. The children were assumed to be over-indulged but they seem to be faring well because they have greater access to resources now. Many have worried that this program would put a negative value on girls because most Asian cultures favor boys.
