Describe Maxine Greene's educational philosophy

What will be an ideal response?

Maxine Greene believed that the role of education is to create meaning in the lives of students and teachers through an interaction between knowledge and experience with the world. Greene's educational philosophy is rooted in John Dewey's ideas about art and aesthetics. Building on Dewey, Greene has contributed to the growth of a paradigm known as aesthetic education. She believed that the goal of education is to help students realize that they are responsible not merely for their own individual experiences, but they also have a deep connection to, and responsibility for, other human beings who share this world. Her philosophy asks us to consider how being able to express oneself in a number of different languages-including imagery, music, and dance-helps us make meaning of ideas. Greene also believes that education must lead students and teachers to the discovery of their own truths and that the arts promote a type of consciousness or "wide-awakeness" in service to this process. She stressed the importance of shared perspectives in looking at the world and a respect for differences in experience.
